Why Should I Choose Speech and Language Therapy as my major?

Speech and Language Therapists are healthcare professionals who ensure the healthy development of communication, language, speech, voice, and swallowing processes, and work on the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of disorders in these areas. They are also involved in scientific research related to the field of speech and language therapy and aim to improve individuals' quality of life.

In this context, speech and language therapists provide services and conduct research in various and comprehensive areas such as:

  • Speech Sound Disorders
  • Motor Speech Disorders

In this context, the Speech and Language Therapy program began in 1989 as master's programs titled "Audiology and Speech Disorders" and doctoral programs in "Education of the Speech Impaired." In 2011, after the professional definition of speech and language therapists was clarified with Law No. 6225, undergraduate education started to be offered.

We are excited to announce that we plan to admit our first undergraduate students to our department, established in 2016 under the Faculty of Health Sciences at Gazi University, in the Fall Semester of the 2024-2025 Academic Year.

Speech and Language Therapists, after graduating from a 4-year undergraduate program and obtaining their titles, can be employed in various institutions and organizations such as:

  • Universities, state, and private hospitals
  • Special education and rehabilitation centers
  • Private clinics and health centers
  • Elderly care centers
  • Public health centers
  • Schools
  • Universities and research institutions
